Butch (Charles Hunter) started to play guitar after hearing an album by Grant Green, “ Feeling the Spirit” when he was about 12 years old. It was then that the Spirit touched him to play guitar.
He performed with Parliament Funkadelic as a youngster as they were originally from the same neighborhood in Plainfield, New Jersey. (They included Gary Shider, Glen Goins, Cordell "Boogie" Mosson, Eddie Hazel,Richard Boyce, Frankie Boyce, Bernie Worrell who were members of this group.)
During high school, Butch also studied guitar and recording with Master Guitarist William "Billy" Jennings of Plainfield, New Jersey, Harry Leahy and George Benson…
It was probably from the Autumn and Spring of 1965 into the summer of 1966 that he had a chance to play and perform as a guitarist with the Plainfield Admirations. They were the backing band for Parliament which also included Frankie and Richar Boyce.
At Kansas State University Butch majored in Cultural Anthropology. He performed as a guitarist and composer for the school’s drama club, the Purple Mask Theatre and local bands. Whilst playing sessions with Kansan guitarist, Bill Hollingsworth.
Butch entered graduate school at the University of Colorado ,but the Spirit to play never left him. He would be destined to a supporting role as a guitarist, composer, sound engineer, assistant producer and an international teacher, working in America, Korea and Japan.
TEDI
Some tracks have a lot of history to them. Some are just one of life's mysteries. TEDI seems to have been a work in progress with New York producers Greg Carmichael and Mitch Braithwaite. The body of work being recorded during the late 1970's and early 1980's was a daily procedure with many people passing through. Over time Greg had no recollection of the recording and neither did his good friend Leroy Burgess. Sadly Mitch Braithwaite is no longer with us. But his music lives on with this boogie soul record with those stabbing piano keys , synth and reverbs. Topped with some growling vocals. He singer sound familiar but i haven't a clue who it is? Tedi someone!! We edited the track on both sides as we know you love your 45's. The full lenght mix is a whopping 10 mins long. Which can only be found as a bandcamp subscriber.
